ST. LOUIS (AP) - A federal panel has consolidated more than a dozen lawsuits involving genetically contaminated rice, creating a single legal action that is one of the largest of its kind.
The lawsuits were filed by hundreds of rice farmers in at least three states. The farmers claim their profits were hurt after an experimental form of genetically altered rice escaped from test plots run by Bayer CropScience AG, a subsidiary of Bayer AG.
