Illegal Alien Petition

Give me your opinions - please comment on this below. I want to know how people feel.

Below is a petition that I received in email. This petition addresses something that I believe is very much at the root of some of the problems in our country today even in the rural areas. Here is our government passing bills to take our hard earned money and basically give it to people who are here illegally. That is the term the scares me. The body that makes and upholds the laws of this land is supporting people that are breaking the law. This is what our country has come to.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The petition starts:

My Mom was a homemaker and Dad worked all his life and paid into SS. Dad has passed away and now my mom can barely make ends meet. While the possible "illegal" alien in front of her at the grocery store buys the name brands, my mom goes for the generic brands and day old breads. She doesn't have out of state calling on her phone, because she can't afford it, and shops at the thrift shops and dollar stores while the "illegal" aliens go to Macy's, Gap, J.C. Penny, Banana Republic, etc. She considers having a pizza delivered once a week "eating out". She grew up during the depression, watched her husband go overseas to fight in WW II a year after their marriage, and then they went on to raise, feed and clothe 5 children, scrounging to pay tuition for parochial schools.

I'm sorry, but I can't see how the Senate can justify this slap in the face to born and bred, or naturalized citizens. It is already impossible to live on Social Security alone. If they give benefits to "illegal" aliens who have never contributed, where does that leave us that have paid into Social Security all our working lives?

The Senate voted this week to allow "illegal" aliens access to Social Security benefits. Attached is an opportunity to sign A petition that requires citizenship for eligibility to receive Social services. If you do not wish to sign the petition yourself, please forward on to anyone you think might be interested.

I deeply sympathize with the folks who are opposed to providing SS benefits to illegals. However, maybe there are a few things we need to think about. 1) Most illegals are paid with a check with SS and taxes withheld -- that's because they probably used a fake/stolen SS card and other documentation to get the job in the first place. 2) They have probably never filed an income tax statement in their life (for fear of being caught) and so it's likely they would have received a refund of most, if not all of what they paid in through the years because most of them don't make much money. 3) For the most part they are filling jobs that the majority of our native, lazy, welfare recipients don't want, in industries that are still here rather than in another country because of labor costs. The fact that those business are here, rather than South America, contributes to the health of our vibrant economy -- which is why they came here in the first place. 4) With our aging "baby-boomer" generation expecting to retire soon, we are going to need them to keep paying into SS so the rest of us will get a small SS check one of these days.

If one had a slightly liberal bent, it could also be argued that the small cost of providing such benefits is due them because of our exploitation of their status.

It's easy to have a "knee-jerk" reaction to such ideas because we are a proud, protectionist, jaded, spoiled people. I know it has been overused, but I think the phrase "what would Jesus do" is appropriate.

You have some valid points. However, in the case of "What would Jesus Do?" My answer would be that Jesus would say that you are to obey the laws that you are under. The term "illegal Alien" Seems to spell out that they are "illegal". I respect and appreciate the work that they do, however, they are illegal. As long as we do not find a way to make them legal, I have an issue with it!

So, do we go with blanket amnesty? That would make them legal. It also says, "everybody come on, get here anyway you can, because we'll just let you stay." Once the cat is out of the bag, it's pretty durn hard to put him back in. I personally prefer a worker permit of some kind.

I think we also have to ask ourselves why they are illegal in the first place. Technically, it's because they didn't follow the laws to get here. But, why were they willing to break those laws? I think if I was stuck in poverty with no chance of improvement, I would consider any means possible to feed my family. Illegal immigrants may possibly be the cheapest form of foreign aid our government has ever paid! Many of them send the majority of what they make back to Mexico, or Guatemala, or wherever they came from in order to help their families. Would it be better to have a seething caldron of unrest to our south (even worse than what is currently there) threatening our borders with military force? I guess we could invade them and make them into a U.S. protectorate. But then the tax burden on the rest of us would be unbearable until we could establish law and order and a sound economic infrastructure. It is a complex problem. Focusing on the illegal aspect of their status may at times blind us to larger issues. Jesus condemned the Pharisees because they were so hung up on the law -- every jot and tittle of it. I also don't think Jesus had any border fences to worry about in his day. Although He crossed a number of political boundaries in His time on earth, I doubt that He entered any country illegally. He did say, "come to me all you who are tired and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Hmmm...similar to what is on the statue of liberty.

If she was a homemaker, then she never really paid into social security. Even illegal immigrants have to pay social security taxes now if they want to get in line for citizenship.

I came to this country 7 years ago, I did it the legal way with tons of applications, fingerprints and background checks, I paid thousands of dollars to be allowed to live here and be married to my wife. And I am not eligible for SS, I am not eligible for ANY help in this country, so why should illegal aliens be eligible? There is something rotten in America.

What's rotten, is the misinformation on the web. It's not true, check your facts.
